History |
The original Woodbine racetrack was
in operation from 1874 through to 1993, but its name was transferred to
the current Woodbine track in 1956. The current Woodbine was known as
'The New Woodbine Track' until 1963. The original racetracks name was
changed to Greenwood raceway or racetrack depending on the type of meets
taking place there. Before the Greenwood track closed, the 2 standard
and 2 thoroughbred meets that were held there were transferred to
Woodbine Racetrack. Before this, Woodbine had been used purely for
thoroughbred racing.
Woodbine is the only track in North America that is able to hold
thoroughbred and standard-bred racing on the same day.
The Canadian horse Racing Hall of Fame is located at Woodbine. |
