was born in South Africa on March 14 1970.
His brother, Weiho Marwing is a thoroughbred horse trainer who is
highly involved in South African racing.
Although based in South Africa, Marwing has won a number of high
profile international Group 1 races. Most notable of these wins is
the Queen Elizabeth II Cup that took place in 2006. Marwing rode
Irridescence to an outstanding victory over favourite Ouija Board at
the Sha Tin racecourse in Hong Kong.
|Whilst working with Mike De Kock, he won the United Arab Emirates
Derby in 2007 at the Nad Al Sheba racecourse on Asiatic Boy who he
says is the best horse he has ever ridden. The partnership with De
Kock and Marwing was seen to be one of the most successful in horse
racing today. They completely dominated the Dubai racing scene in
2006 and they were responsible for some of the most exciting moments
in South African horse racing with the amazing Horse Chestnut.
His partnership with Mike
De Kock ended in September 2007 when Marwing left the UK abruptly soon
before a Grade 1 race in the US. Johnny Murtagh rode Irridescence in
that race and came a close second.
Marwing had 10 stakes wins last season netting him R11,729,000 in
prize money. He had 6 stakes wins in the 05/06 season, 11 in the 04/05
season and 9 in the 03/04 season.
