Weekend Hussler Flu Shots Delayed - 04-13-08
April 13 - Weekend Hussler who has won 7 of his 9 starts this season, will not be having his Equine Influenza booster shot before the 160-day cut off date for re-inoculation expires. Ross McDonald, his trainer has received permission to have the injection delayed because Weekend Hussler apparently reacts very badly to the EI shot. His second injection expires on Friday and he will be running in the $400 000 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.
McDonald said that he would be sitting on 168 days on Doncaster day, but reiterated that there was no way that he would get the inoculation before he had completed his autumn campaign.
Weekend Hussler would need to be on top of his game as he would be facing a classy line-up of older horses at Rosehill in a race that might even end up outshining the Golden Slipper Stakes. Other horses taking part in the George Ryder Stakes are Mentality, Racing To Win and Casino Prince who won the Chipping Norton Stakes at Royal Randwick in Sydney.
Weekend Hussler has just left on a 10 hour float trip to Sydney to prepare for the George Ryder Stakes. Great care has been taken to fit the float since he lashed out on previous trips and cut his hind legs very badly. He will be stabled with Steve Wilson at Rosehill where his box has been lined with rubber.
McDonald also took time to warn punters that Weekend Hussler was not a guaranteed start in the $1.8 million Doncaster Handicap which takes place on the 26th of April.
