Warm White Night Sizzles in Gold Reef Resorts Medallion - 06-04-08

June 4 - On Saturday last week, 2-year-old favorite, Warm White Night, burnt up the track at Scottsville Race Course in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa to win the Gold Reef Resorts Medallion 1200m (Group 1), ahead of Cerise Cherry and Secret Life.

Ridden by top-rated South African jockey, Anton Marcus, the colt showed true grit by keeping his cool in a steady third place on the outside of the field, until Marcus let him loose and he gradually started reeling in the leaders, including talented filly, Thekkady.

Pretty soon it became apparent that Warm White Night was going all the way, despite a strong but brief challenge by Cerise Cherry. He eventually took first place by just over a length ahead of Cerise Cherry, followed Secret Life who held on to clinch third place.

Both Cerise Cherry and Secret Life are trained by leading South African trainer, Paul Matchett.

While there was a slight murmur amongst the spectators that Warm White Night's win, while expected, was not the 'command performance' many thought it would be. However, a win it was, and it marked the colt's third impressive victory in recent weeks.

Incredibly, this race produced the same trifecta result as in Warm White Night's previous two races, where he also finished first ahead of Cerise Cherry and Secret Life, each of whom finished in second and third place respectively.

Said Warm White Night trainer, Charles Laird, after the race, 'After today's performance, I can't wait to see him over a mile', a sentiment echoed by many of the colt's fans, especially given that the two remaining juvenile features (1400m and 1600m respectively) of the KwaZulu Natal season, look to be well within his grasp.
