Victor Ivo Breaks Maiden In Fine Style
Author: Marc Weinberg
October 23 - Victor Ivo may turn out to be a little special. The lightly-raced son of Var broke his maiden yesterday at Durbanville (SAF) leading from start to finish and winning comfortably by 3.75 lengths.
Victor Ivo drifted in the betting before the off, unsurprising as he was coming off a very long rest of 158 days. But based on his two starts last season as a juvenile he had much the best form, and the rest proved no impediment. In fact, he looked a far more complete racehorse on confirmation and was keen to make every post a winning one.
Victor Ivo is owned by one of our racehorseowner syndicates. This is our third season of racing in South Africa and to date our 7 runners have combined for 8 wins (4 individual winners, 1 stakes winner).
Two of our other three-year-old runners look set to break their maidens soon. Big Bird was desperately unlucky on his return to the races as he was given a hopeless draw and forced to come very wide and make the early running. He kept on for 5th, beaten only a length, and has to be one for the notebook.
Yesterday also saw further improvement from Gatsby, who wore blinkers and was beaten less than 2 lengths into 3rd place. Make a note of this one as well.
