Velocity Gal set for Hat-Trick in Randwick Handicap - 07-06-10
July 6 - For horse racing fans in Sydney, Australia, one of the highlights of tomorrow's card at Randwick Racecourse is the 1550m www.royalrandwick.com Handicap with its field of 13, including Velocity Gal who is seeking a hat-trick.
Trainer Rod Craig is confident that Velocity Gal, a 4-year-old mare, has what it takes to romp home first in Wednesday's Handicap, considering she is currently in top form and delivered convincing victories in both of her previous outings.
Two starts back with top-rated jockey Kerrin McEvoy aboard, Velocity Gal stormed home first in a 1550m outing at Canterbury Park in Sydney. Then she went on to win a 1400m nail-biter last Tuesday at Randwick Racecourse.
On that occasion Velocity Gal led the race from start to finish with champion jockey and current premiership leader Nash Rawiller aboard. And Rawiller will again be aboard the mare in tomorrow's www.royalrandwick.com Handicap.
Said Craig, 'He [Rawiller] is strong, he's well balanced, he doesn't ride too short and gets the best out of the horses without flogging them. He's a wonderful rider. Having him aboard Velocity Gal is worth a couple of lengths I reckon.'
Plus it won't hurt Velocity Gal's chances any that Rawiller is also on top form, having secured a treble of wins on Tuesday, including his victory aboard Velocity Gal. As such, the dynamic duo will no doubt start the race as the favorites.
