UAE 2000 Guineas Triumph For Mike de Kock - 02-17-08
February 17 - The 2008 UAE 2000 Guineas was won by a Mike de Kock runner for the second year running when Honour Devil won the race from stablemate Royal Devil. The Group 3 race was the first group win of the year for Johnny Murtagh, the new stable jockey for Aidan O'Brien.
De Kock won this race last year with Asiatic Boy for the same owners and like that horse, who went on to win the Dubai Triple Crown, he hails from Argentina.
The race was a trimuph for Southern Hemisphere-bred racehorses as the runner-up, Royal Vintage was bred in South Africa. He was impressive in defeat as he was coming off a very long layoff (over 250 days) and had a bad draw (13).
Both horses will run next on Super Thursday in the Al Bastakiya, which is the second leg of the Triple Crown.
