Typhoon Tracy Favorite to Blow Orr Rivals Away - 02-04-10
February 4 - On Saturday horseracing fans in Melbourne, Australia can enjoy a
big day of racing at Caulfield Racecourse including the AUD$400,000 CF Orr
Stakes (Gr 1) with a field of 10 weight-for-age runners, including favorite,
Typhoon Tracy, who is expected to blow the competition away.
Just one of the reasons Typhoon Tracy will go into the 1400m turf race
well-backed, is that she drew barrier one, which is every connection's dream.
Said her regular jockey, Luke Nolen, 'Barrier 1 is better than 10, but it
probably doesn't matter where she draws as she's got that tactical gate speed.'
If Typhoon Tracy storms a win in the CF Orr Stakes, it will be the third Gr 1
win of her career. It will also make her only the third female in Australian
horseracing history to win the prestigious race. 'Whether she leads will depend
on what the riders of Danzylum and Sniper's Bullet want to do,' said Nolan.
On January 16 this year, Danzylum won his first stakes race, the listed
AUD$151,00 Chester Manifold Stakes, his fifth career win over 1400m. As such he
is no stranger to the race distance and could pose a big threat to Typhoon
Tracy. His connections have always described him as a 'consistent' runner.
Sniper's Bullet, meanwhile, hasn't raced in Melbourne since coming fifth in the
Emirates Stakes (Gr 1) last year. But in his two subsequent starts, the Railway
Stakes (Gr 1) and the Kingston Town Stakes in Perth, he chalked up two
convincing wins. He could pose the biggest threat to Typhoon Tracy.
The CF Orr Stakes is the first day of the coveted three-day Caulfield Festival
of Racing, which is expected to attract many of the best runners from Melbourne
and beyond. No doubt race goers will watch the CF Orr Stakes and Typhoon Tracy
in particular very closely, but she'll have to work hard to win.
