Top 50 Race Horses In The World Updated - 08-10-07
August 10 - We're modifying the list of the 50 best race horses in the world, because the guys in charge: the International Federation Of Horseracing Authorities seem to be moving a tad slowly for us - their top 2 racehorses have both been retired, which makes the list redundant.
According to the world rankings the best horse in training would be Authorized. He got sucker-punched last time out by Ryan Moore and Notnowcato, and if you asked him and he a) understood the question, and b) could communicate an answer he'd clearly be under the impression that he won the Eclipse.
But Authorized didn't win the race, he only beat all the horses that he could see while Notnowcato sneakily went down the other side of the racetrack at York. Still, Authorized is the better horse with more scope, but is he the best in the world? That seems unlikely to us.
Admire Moon has to be right up there on the list and one feels that Lava Man should rank higher. They've also overvalued Curlin, who is clearly not the best three-year-old in the USA (Rags To Riches, Street Sense, and now Any Given Saturday all have claims) let alone the world.
It is amazing to see four horses with SA connections in the Top 50 with Linngari, Asiatic Boy, Oracle West, and Mythical Flight all making it on to the list. Top-10 race horse Vengeance of Rain is trained by South African David Ferraris, but that takes place in Hong Kong so the link is not immediately apparent.
Premium Tap would also rank higher if only they allowed the horse to run in the US again, where the Breeders' Cup Classic would be the obvious goal.
