The St. Leger Stakes takes place in the UK. It is a Group 1 flat horse race for 3-year old thoroughbreds. The race is held at at Doncaster Racecourse which is a 2,937 meter track. The first race took place in 1776 and is one of the five United Kingdom Classic Races.

The St Leger recently has not attracted the most highly regarded horses in training. Instead, established stars have been aiming towards more rewarding Group 1 races that are held over shorter distances

Doncaster Racecourse

Doncaster Racecourse is situated in Doncaster - South Yorkshire, England. It is one of the oldest and largest established horse racing centres in Britain. Doncaster hosts two of the World's oldest horse races: The Doncaster Cup and The St Leger Stakes.

The track is a left-handed, pear-shaped track in excess of 3000 meters and is mostly flat.

During the first world war the racecourse was used for military purposes and substitute races were run at Newmarket.
