Street Sense Wins The Kentucky Derby - 05-05-07
May 05 - Street Sense found a lot of betting support after a series of phenomenal workouts prior to the Kentucky Derby to start as the ruling favorite in the betting, and the market move was right on the money as he cruised home to win the Run For The Roses.
The connections of Street Sense were extremely confident all week long and the horse proved far too good for 19 rivals, even though he was one from the back heading into the middle of the race.
The pace was fast from the outset with Hard Spun setting off at high speed. The pacemaker was gutsy all the way and chased home Street Sense who wove his way through the pack under a confident and fearless rise from Calvin Borel.
The morning line favorite, Curlin, also settled towards the back of the field, looked uncomfortable throughout but rallied down the home stretch to finish a creditable but well-beaten third.
Street Sense will now eye the Triple Crown and although this is his favorite track where he excels he does look to have a chance of winning the remaining two legs.
