Sixties Icon Aiming For Jockey Club Stakes - 04-13-08
April 13 - The winner of the St Leger Stakes in 2006, Sixties Icon is back in training and if everything goes according to his trainer's plan, will be heading out at the Jockey Club Stakes.
After winning the St Leger Stakes, Sixties Icon has had only 2 starts and performed miserably in both. He was last out of 7 runners in the Coronation Cup and came 10th in the Princess of Wales Stakes.
His trainer, James Noseda says that they are going to be working him hard before racing next week Wednesday at Newmarket, and if he performs well there, he may well be on his way to the Jockey Club Stakes. Noseda also said that Sixties Icon has definitely lost some of his stature and they needed to build him up.
Noseda trained Strike The Deal who finished 4th in the first Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf will not be running in the 1000 Guineas, neither will Captain Brilliance. Noseda says that neither of the horses are really ready to race at the moment.
His only runner in the 1000 Guineas will be Francesca D Gorgio and this will be without a trial run; he says that he is happy with how she has wintered. "But with the cold spring that we've experienced in Newmarket, a decision has been made to give her a little bit more time and not push her in the direction of a trial." So although it's a really huge ask for her, he is sure she will be competitive. He says it will be a bonus if she manages a third of fourth place.
