Jockey Profile |
Seb Sanders |
Seb Sanders is a flat racing
jockey and was born in Birmingham, England on September 25, 1971.
Sanders started his racing career with Bryan McMahon (who retired in
2006), and rode his first winner for McMahon in 1990 on Band On The
Run. He was named Champion Apprentice in 1995 and won his first
Group 1 race in 1997. It was this win, on the 50-1 outsider,
Crompton Place in the July Cup at Newmarket that increased his
profile.
He stepped up as first jockey to Sir Mark Prescott when George
Duffield left in 2004. Sanders wrote Confidential Lady to a huge
victory in the French Oaks in 2006 which gave Prescott his first
Classic win. Sanders was banned after this race for excessive use of
the whip. The banning was for 8 days which led him to miss the whole
Royal Ascot meeting. |

Champion jockey, Kieren Fallon singled out Sanders as his main rival
in the 2002 flat racing season. Sanders ended that season with 123
wins.
Sanders shared the title
of British flat racing Champion Jockey in 2007 with Jamie Spencer. On
the last day of the exciting season at Doncaster, Spencer managed to win
the last race of the season, bringing their totals to a draw, each on
190.
Sanders is presently one of the most successful flat racing
jockeys in Britain. He has ridden over 100 winners each season for the
past 5 seasons. |
