Sariska Betfair Favorite in Epsom Oaks - 06-03-09

betfair casinoJune 3 - If the Epsom Derby is the biggest flat thoroughbred horse race in the UK, then the 350,000 pound Epsom Oaks (Gr 1) must be a close second. And this Friday British horseracing fans will be able to enjoy this prestigious 1 mile, 4 furlong and 10 yard race at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, England.

With 10 top-notch three-year-old thoroughbred fillies expected to start in this year's Epsom Oaks, betting interest in the big race is peaking, especially with the emergence of the early favorite, Sariska. Trained by Michel Bell, this world-class filly last triumphed in May's 65,000 pound Musidora Stakes (Gr 3).

She put herself firmly on the Epsom Oaks radar when she ran home first in the Musidora almost 4 lengths clear - her second win from three starts. Her only loss this season was in the Irish 2000 Guineas, where she struggled over the soft track, but still managed to finish fourth. She will no doubt be the filly to beat.

The next best favorite is Rainbow View, a talented filly trained by John Gosden, who was named 2008 champion juvenile filly. Although she disappointed in last month's 1000 Guineas with a lack-luster fifth place as the overwhelming favorite, her trainer is confident she'll fare much better in Friday's Epsom Oaks.

Said Gosden after the 1000 Guineas, 'To be honest with you, if she wasn't odds-on favorite I was in two minds about running her on the ground, but with the ante-post favorite you can't be doing things like that. We'll look at races like the Epsom Oaks. Over good ground, you'll see her right back to her best.'

The third best favorite is Midday, a gutsy filly trained by Henry Cecil. The top-rated trainer is no stranger to the Epsom Oaks after having won this auspicious race nine times, the last being in 2007 with Light Shift. He'll want to make it ten on Friday with Midday, who easily won the Lingfield Oaks Trial in May.

Here are the latest Epsom Derby odds, as laid down by leading online sports betting site, Betfair:

1. Sariska - 3.75
