Sandown Gold Cup Fever Takes Over - 04-10-08
April 10 - Halcon Genelardais is top of the favourites to win the Grade III Bet365 Gold Cup which will be taking place at Sandown on April 26. He was tipped to win the Welsh Grand National in December 2008 when he was pipped at the last in an exciting finish with Miko De Beauchene.
This is the 52nd running of the Bet365 Gold Cup and after the initial forfeit stage of the cup there are a total of 41 horses remaining.
Paul Nicholls will not be running his star-trio Kauto Star, Neptune Collonges and Star De Mohaison, but he might still decide to run Hoo La Baloo who won the first Grand National Day Charity Race last year and Le Duc.
Tony Martin who will run Royal County Star who came second in the Irish Grand National, as well as stablemates Patsy Hall and Newbay Prop. Point Barrow who won the Irish Grand National in 2006 will be Pat Hughes' Gold Cup runner, and Martin Brassil completes the Irish contingent at the Gold Cup with Pay It Forward.
Some of the other Grand National hopefuls who are trying to win at the Gold Cup are amongst others Knowhere, Vodka Bleu and Bewley's Berry.
