Ramsden Sends Out Six Winners On Same Day - 02-28-08
February 28 - Joey Ramsden, arguably one of the top Cape horse racing trainers saddled six winners at Saturday's meeting at the Kenilworth Racecourse.
The winners were Bush Pirate, Scotts Mistress, Silver Mist and Irish Heroine all ridden by Andrew Fortune who returned to horse racing at the beginning of February after suspension partly due to a long battle with addiction. The other winners were Monopoly and Major Bluff who were both ridden by veteran rider Glen Hatt.
Andrew Fortune is Ramsdens' new stable jockey. Fortune was suspended for 1 month when he contravened rules by failing to ride out Modern Guy on the 26th of November 2006. After the suspension was over he did not immediately return to racing, but entered a drug rehabilitation programme instead. Since his return to the sport he has won 19 out of 46 starts. He was also a winner on Friday night as well when he rode Sean Tarry's Dance Classique to victory at the Greyville racecourse in Durban.
Joey Ramsden took out his trainer's license in 1995 and has a number of very successful horses to his training credit - Winter Solstice, Major Bluff, Starlit, Nania and Omaha Beach, to mention but a few. He has won the Queen's Plate twice and the Fancourt Majorca Stakes twice, and has also emerged victorious in the Fillies Guinness, Canon Gold Cup and the Champion's Cup. Good to see him making the headlines once again!
