The Racing Post Trophy is run at Doncaster racecourse over one 1 mile. It is a flat thoroughbred horse race for two-year old colts and fillies. The Racing Post Trophy was run for the first time in 1961. It was sponsored by Timeform and was known as the Timeform Gold Cup. From 1965 - 75 it was known as the Observer Gold Cup as it was sponsored by the Observer, when it changed sponsor between 1976 - 88 to William Hill plc it was known as the Futurity Stakes. In 1989 The Racing Post became the sponsor; hence the present name of the race.
Reference Point, Authorised, High Chaparral and Motivator are all previous winners of the race that have gone on to win the Epsom Derby.
The purse is $365,380 and its run in October each year. |

Out of Britain's 31 Grade I horse races, it hosts 2 - The Racing Post Trophy and the St Leger Stakes. It is one of the most modern as well as impressive horse racing facilities in Europe. Courses for both flat and national hunt racing are located at Doncaster.
In terms of capacity, Doncaster racecourse is the largest center for horseracing in Britain. It is also one of the oldest with records of races going back to the 16th century. |
