Quarantine Disruptions Not To Blame If Universal Ruler Fails - 05-06-08
May 6 - Universal Ruler has thrived whilst in quarantine in Melbourne even though he was unable to follow his training schedule as planned as he was not allowed on the Sandown grass tracks several times.
Darren McAuliffe, Universal Ruler's trainer says that he was told he may not gallop Universal Ruler on the grass track a number of times which forced him to change his training schedule. He had planned to give Ruler his final gallop before he left Melbourne this week Wednesday, but was told by the powers that be that he would only be able to use the track on Tuesday, which was not ideal as Ruler had run over 1000m on Monday.
Needless to say they had to let him have a gallop this morning and he ran well before speeding up for the final 400m.
Universal Ruler who has won 5 of his 6 starts is likely to stand stud after he finishes his racing career. McAuliffe says that Universal Ruler lost his big chance for decent media exposure because he did not race in spring in 2007.
The Kris Flyer Sprint at Kranji will take place on May 18 and the other Australian horses in the race are Takeover Target and Magnus. They still need to spend another week in quarantine before they fly to Singapore.
