QIPCO British Champions Day Betting Preview
Author: Marc Weinberg
October 13 - The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and the Champion Stakes will be run on the same day this Saturday at Ascot, as part of a fantastic card that caps off a flat season that should live long in the memory of all horse racing fans.
We have witnessed the coming of age of the greatest miler of my generation, and possibly one of the best of all time, in Frankel. He will start at prohibitive odds in the QE II Stakes, and barring bad luck should win as he likes. It is poignant and the opposite of irony that the horse named after the late great Bobby F should become one of the all-time great horses. He could have ended up like most high-priced thoroughbreds, lugging in at Lingfield on the all-weather, so this has been one of those all is right with the world moments.
The bookies are offering markets on whether he will by 3 lengths or more (I saw 13/8 for that), so the question is not if he will win but rather by how far he will win.
As my many thousands of imaginary fans can well attest I lost the house on So You Think in The Arc. The horse was blameless in defeat. The tiny potato-eating numbskull who rode him less so. But fortunately I owned two houses coming into this flat season, and have enough ammunition left in my accounts to carry on racing.
And the good news is that Ryan Moore is whole once more and able to ride So You Think. He will have to be at his best to beat Nathaniel, who didn't get dragged to France and back and will undoubtedly be the fresher of the two animals. My advice is to take a Nathaniel and So You Think boxed exacta.
