Princess Victoria and Val De Ra Are Pick 6 Bankers
Author: Marc Weinberg
December 2 - Val De Ra has been rested for 6 months and is making her seasonal debut in the Southern Cross Stakes, but the early betting suggests that this race will be a walkover for the Dennis Drier trained mare. She opened at 11/20 and has already shortened in to 5/10, and will be a Pick 6 banker for many punters this Saturday at Kenilworth.
She has no equal over 1200m, either male or female, and although the race also features talented horses such as Covenant and State Blue, they are held by the favourite on previous form. Comtesse Dubois is an interesting runner, but looks out of it at the weights, although she is match fit and might surprise by running in the top 3.
If Val De Ra is a "penalty kick", what can one say about Princess Victoria, who surely has the next race on the card, the Cape Fillies Guineas at her mercy. Assuming she stays the extra furlong, which shouldn't pose any problems, she needs only to repeat her previous runs to demolish this field, with Trinity House the best of the rest.
Punters will treat the Pick 6 as a Pick 4 with two obvious bankers on the card. If there is going to be a massive upset it could happen with Val De Ra, who won't be fully tuned up here, but both of these great horses should deliver on a fantastic weekend of SA racing that also features the reappearance of Igugu at Turffontein on Sunday.
