The Preakness Stakes, also known as "The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans" is run at the Pimlico racetrack in
Baltimore, Maryland. It is a graded stakes race run over a distance of 1 and 3/16 miles or 1900m. The race is held in May annually and is open to 3 year old horses.
The Preakness is the shortest leg in thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown, usually attracting the winner of the Kentucky Derby.
The Preakness was introduced by Pimlico two years before the Kentucky Derby was first run.
Leading winning jockeys are: Eddie Arcaro, Pat Day, George Barbee, Bill Hartack and Lloyd Hughes.
