Preakness Stakes Field Now Eight Confirmed Runners - 05-14-07
May 14 - The 2007 Preakness Stakes may only see eight runners lining up to face the starter, although the participation of a ninth horse Chelokee is still a possibility. Tueflesberg though is not going to run in the Preakness but that doesn't make our odds of finding betting value any easier.
The eight runners left all have claims and Street Sense will certainly not have matters all his own way. This looks like an above average crop of three-year-olds and King Of The Roxy and Curlin have already shown promising track work leading up to the race.
The former will have one of the strongest trainer/jockey pairings around these days in Todd Pletcher and Garrett Gomez. Pletcher sent out five runners in the Kentucky Derby and came up empty yet again but he has pointed King Of The Roxy for this race all along.
Tueflesberg was withdrawn from the race over the weekend. The horse has already endured a pretty robust and tiring campaign and his connections felt that he needed a break after a disappointing effort in the Derby.
It is good news for Hard Spun who might enjoy an easier time of it at the head of affairs now that Teuflesberg isn't there to press him for the early lead.
Online racebooks will start to offer betting in advance on the Preakness Stakes for 2007 on Thursday morning once the final field is set.
