Preakness Stakes Favorite Is Big Brown - 05-16-08
May 16 - The post positions have been drawn for the Preakness Stakes and Big Brown, the odds-on race favorite is right in the middle at post number 7. The winner of the Kentucky Derby is thus far unbeaten in 4 starts. He won the Kentucky Derby by 4 and 3/4 lengths and he won the Florida Derby by 5 lengths; this is however the first race that he is such a heavy favorite. Big Brown's connections will be hoping for a win as that will put him on the path to become the first Triple Crown winner in 30 years.
14 horses are able to take part in the Preakness Stakes but only 13 have entered. This is more than expected though anyway as most trainers admit that they are probably running for the second place prize of $200,000 rather than first place. Of the other 12 horses that have entered into Preakness, only 1 ran against him in the Derby and that was Gayego who finished 17th. All the others either skipped the race or had insufficient graded stakes earnings such as in the case with Kentucky Bear.
Eddie Plesa, trainer for Hey Byrn said that if Big Brown wasn't in the equation, then the race would be pretty wide open. Reade Baker though believes differently. He says that although Big Brown beat all the horses at the Kentucky Derby, he didn't beat Kentucky Bear...so he thinks the race seems set to have an exciting finish.
The competitors are as follows;

Unless Big Brown breaks both his ankles suffering a Barbaro-like tragedy he will win this race, and should go on to win the Triple Crown. Find a racebook that offers this wager and bet on him to win the Preakness / Belmont parlay.
