Preakness Field Set To Include Top Derby Horses - 05-11-07
May 11 - The top three finishers in the Kentucky Derby are all set to face one another again in the Preakness Stakes next Saturday. Betting on the race will focus on Street Sense, Hard Spun, and Curlin who all finished on the board at Churchill Downs.
There have been no official declarations for the Preakness, which is run at Pimlico on May 19 but the identities of the major runners in this year's field are hardly a mystery.
Street Sense, who won the Kentucky Derby in good fashion, will head the betting board at short odds to add the second leg of the Triple Crown to his glittering resume. The winner of the Breeders Cup Juvenile has run his best races in Kentucky and it remains to be seen if he will enjoy Pimlico's speed favoring track as much.
Hard Spun is the big danger, and might start at good value odds. He has an eccentric trainer and a jockey who performs very well at this track. His early speed is ideally suited to Pimlico, and we look for a big run from him here.
Curlin looked overwhelmed at the Derby, but might improve from that run where he rallied down the stretch to lug home third.
Other interesting runners in this race could be King Of The Roxy, who skipped the Derby because he wouldn't have stayed the trip, and C P West who is trained by Nick Zito.
As soon as the final field is announced we will bring you Preakness betting and updated Preakness Stakes odds as soon as there are major market moves.
