Pointing North To Race In USA For Pletcher - 02-14-08
February 14 - Greg Blank didn't know if he should laugh or cry after he sold his top performing racehorse, Pointing North to Zabeel Racing International yesterday for an unrevealed amount of money.
The dynamic owner-breeder said that he was very sad to lose the best three yeard old in the country, but in the horse racing business money carried a lot of weight. He said that it was exceptionally difficult to sell a horse who had won 4 races out of 4. He also said that if Pointing North won in the US it would possibly bring more international buyers to South African racehorse sales.
The sale came about when Sheik Rashid Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the owner of Zabeel racing watched a few of Pointing North's wins and was hugely impressed. It was then decided that the horse should continue his career in the States where he could compete against some of the top horses in the world.
Pointing North was bred by Blank and trained by Robbie Sage in Randjiesfontein. He became South Africa's leading three-year-old when he won the SA Cape Guineas last month.
Todd Pletcher, a US hall of fame trainer will be Pointing North's new trainer. On the 15th of March, Pointing North will be quarantined and prepared for his 2-month trip to New York.
