One Thousand Guineas Stakes

The One Thousand Guineas is a Classic Stakes race that takes place in the UK. It is a Group 1 horse race held on the flat that is open to 3-year old fillies. The race distance is 1,609 meters or 8 furlongs and is held annually at the Rowley Mile course - Newmarket, Suffolk, England in April / May.

It was first run in 1814 and is the fillies' equavilent to the Two Thousand Guineas. The race derives its name from the original guaranteed purse of 1,000 guineas, which was a tidy sum nearly two hundred years ago.

One Thousand Guineas Stakes Racecourse

Newmarket has been renowned as the Headquarters of UK flat horse racing for more than 300 years. What gives this venue its unique quality is the fact that is has two very different racecourses, namely the Rowley Mile and the July Racecourse.

The Millennium Grandstand which is based at the Rowley racecourse is set to undergo ?3.5 million of modifications.

The Rowley Mile, also known as the Course of Champions is home to racing of the highest quality which takes place in spring and autumn.

The July Course is used in Summer.
