The One Thousand Guineas is a Classic Stakes race that takes place in the UK. It is a Group 1 horse race held on the flat that is open to 3-year old fillies. The race distance is 1,609 meters or 8 furlongs and is held annually at the Rowley Mile course - Newmarket, Suffolk, England in April / May.
It was first run in 1814 and is the fillies' equavilent to the Two Thousand Guineas. The race derives its name from the original guaranteed purse of 1,000 guineas, which was a tidy sum nearly two hundred years ago.
