Old Aussie Horse Racing Foes Team Up Today - 03-05-08
March 5 ? Stephen Schofield and Shane Dye used to compete as jockeys and had many exciting close finishes over the years; they are now uniting in the hope of winning at Wyong in Australian horse racing action later today.
Ex-Jockey, Stephen Schofield took out his trainer's license in 2004 and has had considerable success with his small team over the years. He has currently pinned his hopes on Big Ethan, the two-year-old that won his trials in both Newcastle and Wyong. Schofield said that Big Ethan was a very nice horse and that although the 2 trial wins were motivating, you never knew what was going to happen until race day.
Schofield is also very excited to have jockey, Shane Dye on board. He says that although they were never good friends whilst riding against each other, they got on well which lead Schofield to phone him and ask Dye to ride for him.
Shane Dye, who has just returned from Hong Kong, was a champion apprentice jockey in New Zealand before moving to Australia in the 1980's. He soon became a top rider in Australia and became prominent after his win of the Melbourne Cup in 1989. He went on to win the Golden Slipper 4 years in a row.
Shane Dye will be riding Subtle Cove (trained by Guy Walter) in the Magic Flute Maiden and Carry On Dude (trained by Graeme Rogerson) in the Rajah Sahib Three Year Old too. He will be hoping to win the treble, although our Antipodean handicapping expert assures us that this is unlikely to occur.
