Trainer Profile |
Nick Zito |
Nick Zito was born Nicholas Philip Zito on the 6th of February 1948 in New York City.
He started his career as a hot walker and worked his way through the ranks of groom and assistant trainer until he became a trainer. Thirty Six Red was his initial top level horse, winning the Wood Memorial Stakes in 1990 and coming second in the same year's Belmont Stakes.
Zito subsequently went on to win the Kentucky Derby twice and has won once at the Preakness and Belmont Stakes respectively.
2005 was a good year for Zito. Not only did his stable win in excess of $8 million in purses, he also became an inductee into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.

| In 2007 Zito's runner War Pass won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in very impressive style. He was made the ante-post betting favorite for the 2008 Kentucky Derby. His first race this season is expected to be in the Tampa Bay Derby on March 15.
Nick Zito trained the two renowned fillies Storm Song and Bird Town. He has won two Breeders' Cup races, both interestingly enough in the Juvenile divisions. Zito is also the representative of the National Horse Protection Coalition. |
