Mike Chambers Dominates At Turf Paradise - 05-05-08
May 5 - Mike Chambers has been able to recreate his successes at Turf Paradise in Arizona with a one-two finish in the Seattle Handicap on Sunday.
Nationhood and Chhaya Dance held off Bound-to-be M-V-P who was the pacesetter from the start. Bound-to-be M-V-P came third by 0.2 lengths in the field of nine.
He wasn't keen to race both Nationhood and Chhaya Dance in the same race, but had to bow to the owners wishes. It's good that he did, because it is going to push his winning percentages even higher. He had a 41% winning success rate whilst in Arizona. At the Turf Paradise Meet which came to an end on Sunday, he finished with 82 wins which gave him a second place in the trainer's rankings. The leading trainer at Emerald Downs last season had a rate of 19%.
Emerald Downs top rider Ricky Frazier was thrilled with the win as it was his 45th stakes win at Emerald Downs. He said that he had the 6-year-old Nationhood exactly where he wanted him at the early stages of the race, but because he was running against some stiff competition wasn't sure he would make it. But Nationhood dug in when he needed to and ended up winning the race.
Chambers is hoping to enter both Nationhood and Chhaya Dance in the Longacres Mile. He finished second there in 1997 with Hesabull.
