Massive Win For Rockpecker - 05-08-08
May 8 - Ken Fythe, trainer of Rockpecker is understandably thrilled with Rockpecker's performance at Moonee Valley yesterday. Rockpecker came back with a run-away 7 length win making this his third career win from 13 starts.
Rockpecker was rather unlucky in the showcase final at Ballarat, so this race was a good way to make amends said Fythe after the race. He agreed that it was an easy win, but it was good to see what he was capable of.
Fythe said that he wasn't completely sure which race he wanted to aim for next, but was thinking about entering Rockpecker in the David Bourke Provincial Plate which takes place at Flemington on July 7. The race is run over a mile and the purse is AUS$100 000.
Fythe says that Rockpecker is an incredibly versatile horse and the distance will pose no problem.
Rockpecker started at Moonee Valley an even money favourite and Fythe confirmed that he was confident even before the start of a big win in this particular race, but didn't think that the 4-year-old would win with quite the ridiculous ease that he did.
