Lee Freedman |
David Lee Freedman was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 12 August 1956.
Freedman's family bloodline comes from a long and lustrous line of horse racing, dating
back to the early 1900's, when his great grandfather, Bill "Midge" McLachlan,
was one of the finest young riders in the country of the time.
When his father, Tony
Freedman, retired from property development, and began horse breeding and training, a
young Lee took a keen interest in racing.
In 1983, Freedman decided to leave the family farm to pursue what was to become a very
rewarding future in horse breeding and training. He bought the Warwick Farm and began
training a few horses with the help of his brother Anthony and a stable foreman.

Soon, Freedman and his three brothers, Anthony, Michael, and Richard, embarked on an
unshakable partnership, proving Lee as one of Australia's most fruitful winners in the
key races in past 20 years, including four Golden Slippers, four Caulfield Cups, two Cox
Plates, and five Melbourne Cups, including two of the three won by Makybe Diva. And in
2007, he won the King's Stand Stakes at England's Royal Ascot meeting with Miss Andretti.
In 2003, Freedman decided
to launch a training centre at St. Andrews, bordering the Moonah Links
Golf Resort, but his brothers Richard and Michael took the opportunity
to embark on their own professions in the media and golf course
construction fields. Lee, and his brother Anthony, continued to run the
new farm "Markdel" which produced immediate results. |
