Jockey of Tsutsumi Praised for Canterbury Win - 06-04-08
June 4 - Top Australian race horse trainer, Pat Webster, has labeled
Sydney-based jockey, Mitchell Bell, 'the most underrated jockey
in the city' after his impressive win on fast filly, Tsutsumi, in the
rain-soaked Canterbury on Wednesday.
Firmly in control from the starting gate of the Rosehill Gardens Event Centre
Hcp (1250m), Bell rode Tsutsumi patiently throughout the race, saving her
for a final flourish where she pushed to the front of the field and on to a
well-deserved victory by a length.
And at odds of $6.50, she trounced the race favorite, Cartoon Character, at
$3.10.
'That was another great ride for Mitchell. I cannot understand why he is so
underrated, especially since he manages to ride winners in town but is hardly
offered any rides when he goes to the provincials. He has won on many of my
horses,' said Webster after the race.
Bell has an excellent record riding for Webster, with his list of credits
including an impressive win on Mizone in the Listed Frank Underwood Cup at
Rosehill in January this year.
Said Bell after his win at Canterbury, 'I had a great ride. Tsutsumi was
traveling very well and it was just a matter of timing the run properly. I knew
she'd get the job done in the end and she did.'
