Jet Master Passes Away
Author: Marc Weinberg
November 15 - South Africa's horse racing industry is in mourning with the news that Jet Master, the greatest locally-bred sire ever to stand in the country, died earlier today.
On behalf of all of those involved with RaceHorseOwner.com I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Devine family.
From my own very limited personal experience I know how important Jet Master was to them, and how much pleasure he brought the entire family.
A horse of this quality comes around once in a lifetime, and then for the lucky few, and while he cannot be replaced it is worth remembering what a tremendous influence he had on the sport of horse racing.
Jet Master was not a flashy, expensive purchase. In a true rags to riches story, he went on to become a brilliant and courageous racehorse, excelling at distances from 1000m to a Mile. But even his scintillating career in which he won 17 races could not have prepared anyone for his ability as a sire.
He produced JJ The Jet Plane, Pocket Power, and River Jetez - three horses that were truly world class. In addition there were numerous Gr 1 winners including Mythical Flight, Past Master, and Ebony Flyer. His progeny have beaten the best from 5 furlongs to a mile and a half.
Jet Master's statistics cannot really explain the deep and lasting affect he has had on South African horse racing in general and the local breeding industry in particular. He will be sorely missed by everyone who cares about horse racing.
