The Tokyo Racecourse is a left-handed turf course offering magnificent views of Mt Fuji. Built in 1933, the inaugural Japan Cup race was limited to those horses that had been trained in North America, India, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. A 5 year old mare, Mairzy Doates, won the race by a full length ahead of Frost King with another American horse, The Very One coming in third. No horse has ever won the Japan Cup more than once. |
