Jockey Profile |
Jamie Spencer |
Jamie Spencer was born on the 8th of June 1980 in
County Tipperary in Ireland. He is currently one of the top jockeys
in Britain and Ireland.
He is the godson of John Magnier who owns Coolmore Stud and
his father George was the trainer of Winning Fair who was Champion
Hurdler in 1963. He is married to the daughter of retired trainer,
Lynda Ramsden.
Spencer became Liam Browne's apprentice jockey in 1996 and
won his first race in May of that year at Downpatrick. Spencer only
17 when he won on Tommy Stack's Tarascon in the 1998 Irish 1,000
Guineas and the following year he was Irish champion apprentice. He
moved to England in 2000 and became partners with trainer Luca
Cumani. Whilst he was with that stable he had wins in the Fillies
Mile and Irish 1000 Guineas on Gossamer and the Singapore
International Cup on Endless Hall. |
 |
| He moved back to Ireland in 2004 in what proved to be an
unwise decision. During his time with Aidan O'Brien at Ballydoyle he
rode Valoren and Oratorio to victory, but received a lot of
criticism for his manner of riding and in 2005 he left the stable
for "personal reasons". He went back to England as a freelance
jockey and has proved hugely successful. Jamie Spencer shared the
title of British champion Jockey with Seb Saunders in 2007. |
