Interference Leads To Win For Mare - 04-14-08
April 14 - Unusual Heat has sired yet another winner.
Lightmyfirebaby became the latest success story for the champion stallion when she won the $112 700 Las Cienegas Handicap this past weekend. She won the race with an assist though, as another horse, Bahama Mama actually crossed the line first, but was disqualified for drifting out and causing interference with Lightmyfirebaby and 2 other horses. After what was seen as some to be an excessively long deliberation time considering how plain the infraction was, Bahama Mama was placed fourth behind Lightmyfirebaby, Wake Up Maggie and Super Freaky.
This race marks the 24th win by offspring of the well-known Unusual Heat since the December 26th last year.
Lightmyfirebaby is owned by the Richard O'Neill Trust has won 3 of her 7 starts at this meet. She is trained by Barry Abrams who is also the owner of Unusual Heat. The odds on Lightmyfirebaby winning the Las Cienegas Handicap were 10-1.
Jockey Alex Solis who was riding Lightmyfirebaby for the first time said that the stewards definitely made the correct decision when deciding to disqualify Bahama Mama. He said that the bumping of Lightmyfirebaby when they crossed the dirt cost him about 1 and a half lengths and she was beaten by 1 length at the line.
