How Much My Love

How Much My Love set for Tattersalls Mile - 07-20-10

July 20 - For Australian racehorse trainer, Danny Williams, his efforts in Queensland over the past few weeks have been frustrating with zero stakes victories, but that may all change in Saturday's 1600m $75,000 Tattersall's Mile.

Williams is hoping that his talented galloper How Much My Love will break his Queensland losing streak at Eagle Farm on the weekend. 'The stable hasn't had a lot of luck with a high number of setbacks and injuries,' he explained.

One such injury sounds like it came from the pages of a Hollywood script not from real life. When one of Williams' charges, Proclaimer, was being galloped on a beach near Deagon, he stood on a stingray and was 'barbed.'

'We often take our horses to the beach near Deagon and one day Proclaimer stood on a stingray,' said Williams. 'It was freakish to say the least. He had to have an operation to remove the barb, and he'll be out for six months.'

How Much My Love also succumbed to injury earlier in the season, when a bruised heel meant he missed the prestigious Stradbroke Handicap. Once recovered, he finished sixth out of twelve in the Glasshouse Handicap on July 3.

And despite finishing out of the money, Williams was impressed with his form. So much so that he is confident that the 4-year-old has a better than good chance of winning Saturday's Tattersall's Mile against 12 other thoroughbreds.

His biggest competition may be in the form of wet track specialist Rockdale, who won the coveted TJ Smith Plate (Gr 1) at Eagle Farm in 2008, but has not visited the Winner's Circle since winning the 2009 Rough Habit Plate.
