Horse Racing Hall of Fame Finalists Named - 02-24-08
February 24 - The finalists for the induction into the American Racing Hall of Fame have been named.
The finalists include Edgar Prado, the jockey who has not only earned more than $200 million in purses throughout his career, but recently won his 6000th race. People are more likely to remember him for riding Barbaro, the ill-fated winner of the 2006 Kentucky Derby who captivated the nation.
Randy Romero has also been nominated for his 4294 wins and purse earnings of about $75 million spanning his career. He retired in 1999. Romero won 122 graded races and was the rider of champion horses Personal Ensign and Go For Wand.
Alex Solis has had 4534 wins and purse earnings of around $205 million. He has already won a phenomenal 280 graded stakes. He was Snow Chief's rider when he won the Preakness in 1986.
Trainers that have been nominated for the top racing honour are Carl Nafzger and Robert Wheeler.
Carl Nafzger has had 1069 wins and purse earnings of about $50 million. He has won 68 graded races and trained the Kentucky Derby winners Unbridled and Street Sense.
The late Robert Wheeler trained Silver Spoon; one of the few fillies to win the Santa Anita Derby. Wheeler trained Tompion who also won the Santa Anita Derby.

Sky Beauty - 15 wins out of 21 starts
Best Pal - won 17 stakes

Tiznow - 8 wins out of 15 starts
The inductees will be revealed on the 4th of April and enshrined on the 4th of August this year.
