Correction Handicap

Hold That Prospect

Hold That Prospect set for Correction Handicap - 01-29-10

January 29 - With its short five-horse field, it's won't be hard to spot the favorite in Saturday's $65,000 Correction Handicap at Aqueduct Racecourse in New York as five-year-old Florida-bred mare Hold That Prospect, and her trainer Gary Gullo is full of confidence she'll finish at the top.

'I hate to get crazy, but I think she should be one-two,' he said. Hold That Prospect is a well-proven speedster which could set her apart from the rest of the field, the majority of which hail from the Mid-Atlantic. The question is whether any of them possesses speed Gullo doesn't know about.

'Sometimes you get these out-of-town horses [three from Maryland] that look like they have speed, and for one reason or another they don't show it, he explained. 'Besides I don't think they'd want to ship all the way here to go head and head with her unless they're looking to get her beat.'

In March last year Gullo claimed Hold That Prospect for $30,000 on behalf of Funky Munky Stable. To date she has racked up four victories and a second place from six starts. In her most recent outing, the Garland of Roses Handicap at Aqueduct min December last year, she finished in fifth.

However, the race was contested over a sloppy track and just eight days previous she ran her heart out to win a starter handicap. With dry and firm conditions expected tomorrow, and Hold That Prospect rested, Gullo is expecting her to rocket out of the barrier with Jorge Chavez aboard.

A potential threat to Hold That Prospect is What Time It Is, who last ran on June 6, but has also show a swift turn of foot for her trainer Michael Trombetta. How she matches the speed of Hold That Prospect from the start will more than likely determine the result of the Correction Handicap.

Here is the complete field and odds for the Correction Handicap:

  1. What Time It Is (MD) 7/2
  2. Heaven's Voice (MD) 3/1
  3. Fascinatin' Rhythm (MD) 5/2
  4. Bright Halo (BRZ) 10/1
  5. Hold That Prospect (FL) 2/1
