Trainer Profile |
Henry Cecil |
Henry Cecil is a hugely successful racehorse trainer in the UK. He was born on the 11th of January 1943 and is the step-son of famous winning trainer Sir Cecil Boyd-Rochfort. Henry Cecil was a twin (his brother David died in 2000).
Cecil worked as an assistant to his step-father from 1964 to 1968, and took his license in 1969. Since then he has created what is arguably the most prolific racing stable in the whole of England. He is well-known for his success with fillies and has become a legend in the racing world; many brilliant jockeys have ridden for Cecil, amongst others Lester Piggott, Joe Mercer and Kieren Fallon.
Henry Cecil's nephew is Ben Cecil, a very successful trainer in the USA. Training racehorses is clearly in the Cecil blood!
Cecil has been named Champion Trainer 10 times and has won the Epsom Oaks 8 times and the 1000 Guineas 6 times. |

| Henry Cecil was dealt a large blow when his relationship with Sheikh Mohammed came to an end and all the horses owned by the sheikh were withdrawn from his stable. In 2007 Cecil announced that he had been receiving treatment over the past 9 months for stomach cancer. |
