Hanagan Odds-On To Retain Jockey Title
Author: Marc Weinberg
October 5 - Paul Hanagan's odds to win the jockeys' title have drifted out to 2/5 but he is still odds-on to retain the championship he won last season when he narrowly held off a late challenge from Richard Hughes.
This year the late threat to those who have punted on Hanagan is coming from Kieren Fallon. Yesterday Fallon rode a sparkling double at Leicester and the response from UK bookies was swift as his odds were trimmed to 9/4.
Fallon now has 133 winners for the season, but still has much to do if he is to overhaul Hanagan on 140.
The only other challenger is young Silvestre De Sousa who has been in hot form the entire week. He won four races on Monday and added another at Southwell yesterday. He is 12/1 but that might be a bit of value considering he already has 129 wins.
