Goodwood Promises To Add To Memorable Racing Year

July 12 - For horse racing fans there have already been a lot of memorable moments and high profile races to have enjoyed throughout the year. From the Cheltenham festival where favourite Don Cossack was victorious in the Gold Cup to 33-1 shot Rule The World running away with the Grand National. Add to that Royal Ascot over the last month and it's fair to say that it has been a very exciting time for fans, but it doesn't stop there. Over the summer there are a range of great race meetings that will attract attention at your local odds site, with Glorious Goodwood arguably the standout.

That's because in 2014 Goodwood signed a deal with Qatar, which made it the biggest sponsorship deal in British racing history. Money was pumped in to attract the finest jockeys and trainers from all over Britain, Ireland and the world to make the meeting extremely competitive and full of quality. The investment into the event has seen Qatar Sussex Stakes offer up a cool ?1m as the prize fund and the Qatar Nassau Stakes ?600,000. The festival begins on the 26th July, with the Sussex Stakes the highlight on Day Two. It is a very exciting race, with two standout runners according to the racing odds. You can get some of the best odds seen here for all of the races at Goodwood including the Sussex Stakes which has Galileo Gold priced as a slight favourite (7-4) ahead of The Gurkha (9-4). The favourite ran a great race in the St. James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot with Frankie Dettori and has been focussed on Goodwood since that victory.

Meanwhile, for The Gurkha, things haven't been running as smoothly. He recently narrowly lost out in the Group One Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park to Hawkbill despite starting as a 4-6 favourite under Ryan Moore, however the team will be hoping that this is not a sign of things to come at Goodwood. Elsewhere, the final day of the festival is the day of the Nassau Stakes and for that one the bookies have a hot favourite for that one. Minding is priced as short as 1-2 for the big race, with trainer Aidan O'Brien recently confirming that the horse would be saved for the race at Goodwood. The three-year old is considered to be a top class runner and will be expecting to live up to the hype in the Nassau Stakes and become a real force.

Overall, Goodwood is a standout day for punters for a variety of reasons. As well as the quality runners and riders it is based in the beautiful Sussex countryside which is the ideal venue to enjoy a day out with family and friends watching the races. So you can expect an all-round great day out when you go to Goodwood and this year is no different with some mouth-watering races including the Sussex Stakes that will really grasp the punters attention.
