Getaway May Miss Juddmonte Coronation Cup - 05-06-08
May 6 - Getaway who is the Antepost 5 to 1 on favourite for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe may not start at the Juddmonte Coronation Cup which will be held at Epsom on June 6.
The Coronation Cup was thought to have been the main target for Getaway before his grand win this past Sunday in the Jockey Club Stakes. Those in the know say that there is still a possibility that the son of Monsum may race, but he is also a likely starter in the Hardwicke Stakes and the King George VI Stakes, whether he starts in the Coronation Cup or not.
Paul Harley, the racing manager for owner Georg von Ullman said that Getaway had eaten up quite well and that Andre Fabre, his trainer, was very happy with his progress. He says that they are considering the Grade I Grand Prix de Saint Cloud as an alternative race to participate in as well.
Harley went on to say that Fabre had always intended on running Getaway over 1 and a half miles in a Group 1 race, but he also that Getaway was a particularly difficult horse to train. He is a temperamental horse and Fabre would like to run him in the longer races at the start of his career in order for him to learn to enjoy his racing.
