Friday Betting Guide for Fairview Racing - 06-18-09
June 18 - Horseracing fans in the picturesque South African south coast city of Port Elizabeth can look forward to an exciting day of racing excitement tomorrow (Friday, June 19) at Fairview Racecourse, with a full card of turf races that includes two maiden plates, three handicaps, two stakes races and the PE Gold Cup.
Kicking off the action is a 1200m Maiden Plate for fillies and mares that has attracted a pretty varied field. However, the runner to keep an eye on has to be Bold Choice, who has been in superb form of late and will go into the race wearing blinkers. Argent Winter and Danzig's Love are also looking good to go.
Race 2 is a 1400m Maiden Plate with a bend. While Pasteur ran a better race the last time he attempted this course and distance, there is still a question as to whether he can pull off a win on Friday. That said, he is worth a wager as is Cry Havoc and Villa du Pont, who has been running extremely well of late.
The 1600m Mr 78 Handicap is the third race of the day and should be a real humdinger. It has drawn Ice Crusher, who has yet to finish out of the top places over this course and distance. Also worth a bet is Malabar, who is long overdue for a victory as well as Psycho Sam, who has proven himself over this distance.
Race 4 is the 1000m Mr 96 Handicap for fillies and mares. This one's for the sprinters and definitely worth a bet is Royal Excellence who has been running up a storm of late. She did very well in a Gr 1 sprint last month in Pietermaritzburg. But, don't discount Gilded Moon or Arabian Jazz, as both are eager sprinters.
In race 5, the 1200m Pinnacle Stakes, Hear The Drums looks to be the best bet. He has earned over R1 million in Port Elizabeth stakes races, and is arguably one of the city's top sprinters. Take a Chance should also be decently backed as he has performed well over this distance. What A Jet could also pull out a win.
The feature race of the day is race 6, the listed R125,000 Port Elizabeth Gold Cup over 3600m. This race has attracted many of PE's best stayers including Man On A Mission, who is currently in top form; American Idol who is consistent, but needs to push himself; and Arctic Fleece, who is definitely worth a wager.
Race 7 is the 1400m listed R120,000 Lady's Slipper Stakes. This is a tough one to call given the overall talented field, but if there are a couple of runners worth backing, one has to be Cashmere 'N Caviar who recently dazzled in Cape Town. Another is St Kilda, although still a maiden, and lastly Golden Bow.
And finally race 8 is the 1400m Mr 86 Handicap for fillies and mares. Our pick is Sophie's Choice who is looking good and just got unlucky in her last outing. Scripture could warrant a bet considering she seems to have regained her top form, while Boreal Applause is never far off the pace and could deliver tomorrow.
