Free Horse Racing Tips - Vaal South Africa August 26

Author: Marc Weinberg

August 26 - Today marks a new era for RaceHorseOwner.com, as we endeavor to focus on the punter and provide useful horse racing information for free. So even if you don't find it that useful you cannot quibble at the price.

The author is an inveterate horse racing gambler, and is not averse to placing bets on four different continents on the same day (USA, UK, SA, and Aus for instance). If there is an overlay such as a big Pick 6 or similar Exotics pool then we'll handicap it and try to win it.

Saturday's meeting at the Vaal sees a Pick 6 carryover of R938,000 and an estimated net pool of R3 million. They always overplay that amount in SA so let's err on the side of caution and go with a net pool of R2,300,000. That will still make for a decent payday, especially on the sand track where results can be a little wild.

My thoughts for the card and a few tentative selections (please bear in mind that I take % bets when dealing with SA, so the permutations are large but I rarely bet the full %. I'm happier to take a R10,000 perm and spend R2,000 for 20%. You can spend as little as R100 and still get 1%):

Race 4 (Leg 1)
CAUSEWAY looks hard to beat here, but respect for Strydom and PIMP MY RIDE, and hard to leave out a value 3-way coupling that includes danger TRIPPLE SEVEN. Take 1,3,5

Race 5 (Leg 2)
The favorite PILOT will have his supporters, but I am not one of them, although interestingly (at least to me) I was the underbidder on this horse at the sales. Good to see him on sand in his 4th start. My advice is to take the field here. (12 horses)

Race 6 (Leg 3)
Many horses with good chances here. If I had to pick a winner I'd back CANDY COTTON, but I want to stay in the Pick 6 so instead will go wide with 1,2,4,5,6,9,12.

Race 7 (Leg 4)
The feature race and one has to respect THE MOUSEKETEER as part of a strong coupling, but the winner could well be BOUQUET-GARNI. One has to add a few more to ensure survival however. 2,5,8,9,11,14

Race 8 (Leg 5)
Don't leave out BEE PATROL, a real long shot here. The race should be between BAMBELELA and MARCHING BAND. I would play 2,3,4,6,8

Race 9 (Leg 6)
Smaller punters should banker THE WHITE HORSE. Looks the most likely single on the card. I will add the 3-horse coupling because I can. Play 5 and 8.

Full Pick 6 costs 3x12x7x6x5x2 = R15,120.00.
