Frankie Dettori was born in Milan, Italy in 1970. He is 37 years old, possibly the most famous active jockey in the world, and certainly the most popular. Born Lanfranco Dettori he is the son of a famous Italian jockey and was awarded an MBE in 2000. Dettori rides for Godolphin, the UAE-based global behemoth of racehorse owners. He is well known for his flamboyant dismounts after winning important races, and crowds of adoring punters have seen Frankie do this in a number of the world's most valuable races. The one race he wanted to win more than any other, but which had eluded him throughout his career, was the Epsom Derby - he finally achieved that first victory in 2007 aboard Authorized.
Dettori enjoys cult status in England where he frequently appears on television, owns his own restaurant, and once rode the winners of every race on the Ascot card (an unbelievable seven for seven on the day).
