Falaise Hit With A Handicap - 05-09-08
May 0 - Falaise, Peter Snowden's 5-year-old gelding who has had a disappointing run of races recently has been given a 59kg handicap for the Rowley Mile which is taking place at Hawkesbury this coming Saturday.
Peter Snowden is hoping that Falaise will be able to make light work of the big weight in the 1600m race. He says that Falaise is a very competitive horse and that he is confident he will be able to run a good race regardless of the weight.
Falaise did not perform well in the Doncaster Cup where he finished 16th. He finished 9th in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes because he had to work really hard too early from the wide barrier. He did however do very well at Newmarket which is why Snowden is confident that he will run a good run this weekend.
Falaise will be starting from barrier 3 and his jockey will be Josh Parr who has been his rider for his last 3 starts. Snowden says that Parr knows Falaise well, so the only concern for this race is the fact that he has a huge load to carry compared to most of the other runners.
Fighting Fund is the second topweight with 58.5kg; he won the Rowley Mile-Scone Cup double in 2006. Fighting Fund came 5th at Randwick last weekend, so expect a good race from him too.
There are 9 runners confirmed and 5 of them are weighted at the minimum of 53kg; Jymcarew for instance has a 5.5kg weight advantage over Snowdens galloper. Jymcarew has however only recently come back after an 18 month layoff for injury.
