2008 Belmont Stakes

Big Brown Belmont

Excitement as Big Brown Belmont Win Beckons - 06-03-08

June 3 - With the 2008 Belmont Stakes (Group 1) just a few days away (Sat, June 7th), bookies and sports betting sites alike are experiencing a 'betting frenzy', with punters all across America, and indeed the globe, wagering on whether Triple Crown hopeful, Big Brown, can deliver a win.

The Belmont Stakes is the third and final race of the illustrious Triple Crown, with the other two races comprising the prestigious Kentucky Derby ,which was held in May this year, and the Preakness Stakes a few weeks later, both of which were won by the 'lion-hearted' Big Brown.

This means that Big Brown is in with a shot to become the first Triple Crown winner in 20 years. And, if the thoroughbred pulls it off, he will undoubtedly become one of the most beloved and respected race horses on the North American horse racing scene, even more so than he already is.

Of course, it hasn't all been plain sailing for Big Brown, who has had his fair share of injuries this year. Just last week, a small quarter crack was discovered in the 3-year-old's front left foot which threatened to jeopardize his chances of competing in the 2008 Belmont Stakes in Elmont, New York.

Fortunately, under the care of renowned horse racing foot specialist, Ian McKinlay, the injury turned out to be treatable and after a deft repair job, it appears that Big Brown will indeed be in the starting line up come race day, where he will surely be cheered on by a capacity Belmont crowd.

Big Brown will have to work hard for the victory and the Triple Crown, however, as he is expected to face some stiff competition from the likes of Ready's Echo, Casino Drive, Behindatthebar, Anak Nakal, Denis of Cork, El Gato Malo, Tomcito, Macho Again, Tale of Ekati, and Icabad Crane.

The final race card list is scheduled for release this Thursday, when Big Brown's trainer, Richard Dutrow Jr, and jockey, Kent Desormeaux, will have the opportunity to see exactly what they and the gutsy colt are up against.
