Dingaans Tips For Summer Cup Day At Turffontein - 11-24-07

November 24 - The Dingaans has always been a prestigious race for three-year-olds in South Africa, but this year's renewal has at least five horses who have Grade 1 potential. It is an extremely strong field and the latest Dingaans betting can definitely be exploited by shrewd handicappers.

It is strange that the Dingaans is only a Grade 2 race because it has certainly attracted the cream of the SA horse racing crop in terms of Classic males. The latest odds see JJ The Jet Plane installed by the bookies as the 2/1 favourite. He was brilliant last time out in winning the Graham Beck Stakes, and in that race he beat a few of today's market rivals.

JJ The Jet Plane won that race despite being very green, having a shocking draw, and running wide throughout. In fact, he won in a canter and looked like a future champion. But on today's weights he could well be beaten. He must give Kilcoy Castle, a very smart sort in his own right, 2kgs for the 2.5 length beating he handed out last time. Lion's Blood was 4.75 lengths behind in the Graham Beck and he is now 4kgs better off.

Kilcoy Castle needed that last run badly, and was using it as a prep run for this race - he could be the one to beat here.

Second in the betting is another horse with huge potential, Lubricator from the Marwing yard. He is also undefeated from two starts, and while he has never faced horses of this quality his connections rate him very highly. Waichong gets the ride, and Lubricator must be included in all Exotics because he could be anything at this stage.

Mike DeKock cannot be ignored either as he sends out Hamlool with Striker Strydom aboard. The 6/1 odds about Hamlool's chances seems the right price to us. The race figures to be too short for this rangy colt and he may have to settle for minor money here.

Our Dingaans tip? Bet on Kilcoy Castle to win, and include Lubricator and JJ The Jet Plane in all your exactas and trifectas!
