The Dewhurst Stakes is run in the UK over a distance of 1408 meters. It is a Group I flat race for thoroughbred colts and fillies of two years old. The purse at this year's race was ?358 000.
The Dewhurst Stakes was first run in 1875 and is thought to be the most prestigious race in the UK for two-year-old horses. The winner of this race nearly always becomes the favourite for the next season's Classic Races.

The Newmarket Racecourse houses 2 courses; the Rowley Mile Course and the July Course. Both of these tracks are utilised for flat races only. The Dewhurst Stakes is run on the Rowley Mile course which is used for Spring and Autumn racing. Newmarket also houses the National Horseracing Museum. The racecourse's capacity has increased from 19000 to 21500 due to a ?10 million revamp that took place at the beginning of 2007.
